INSPIRATION - THE BACK STORY
This dress was a foundation piece for our aesthetic, and one of our first.
The navy stripe feels rich but natural, and the black ribbon gives a cool black on navy vibe -- which I love. The original idea was a nautical rope at the neck, but it didn't feel like us (too island). Once we got there, I loved that the straps look like pieces of tape holding it together.
I wanted the chic feel of a 'bag dress', but I wanted it flattering, so here's what we did: we cut the front body on the curve, and let the back bag a bit in the arch. The outcome was ultimately more sophisticated.
Important to Know: this is a bit tailored in the bust & hip; I wear a 6 instead of a 4 as a 36 B-C cup, 39 hip. All others - I wear our 4.
HOW I WEAR IT
To Work: a cool ankle boot (these are mine in the pic!), or heeled sandal
Weekends: a flat black sandal - minimal
Dinner Out: an open toe ankle boot
The dress length hits mid-shin on pretty much everyone, with side slits for movement.
The back drape of this dress feels sophisticated, but the overall drape flatters the figure. The best part is that the waist has a forgiving drape, even though the dress is more snug in the bust & hip.
- 40% Cotton / 60 % Rayon
- 100% Cotton Voile Lining
- Dry Clean Recommended (will shrink if washed)
- Neck: is higher but exposes the décolletage
- Bust: is tailored and a bit snug (I wear an non-padded strapless & size up)
- Waist: Nice drape but forgiving
- Hip: is a bit snug, but I can still wear the 4 or 6 hip...
- Length: dress should finish somewhere in the mid-shin to above ankle
