INSPIRATION - THE BACK STORY
I've had a sketch of this dress for quite a while. To be very frank, I made this dress sample almost 7 times before we got to this design. Full disclosure -- the original dress closed with these amazing steel hooks; they were very cool. But - along the way, an interesting opportunity happened. The hooks were raw steel and were staining the cashmere. I had to adjust, so I decided to do something genuine -- I put these great little 'slash X's' in place of the hook. This was the birth of our X again.
Also, I am fortunately - or unfortunately, obsessed with cashmere wool. You'll see this some more as we go forward. It's fun to cut & sew and so great to wear in winter. It IS lightweight (or the rolls we choose are) but keeps you warm. Can't say enough good things about this fabric...
HOW I WEAR IT
To Work: with a cool ankle boot, boot or heel
Weekends: ( l don't -- only wear it for work / work night events )
Dinner Out: for a work event, but give it an even better heel!
The bodice panel is real, but stitched down so you don't have those open gaps when you move. I like that we did this, even though I like the mechanics to be real.
The sleeve is slightly capped for a more flattering look
The A line skirt provides a hint of a military look, though some have said I have 40s undertones. (hmmmm)
The zipper -- I love the zipper. The zipper has silver teeth with white tape, which I love as a contrast to the creme. (love creme & white together) -- but his is subtle..
